Flood prevention work at Dinnington

Published Wednesday 3rd March 10

Work is currently taking place in Dinnington to reduce the flood risk.

The Council is replacing the stone culvert which takes Eel Mires Dike under Monksbridge Road with a much larger concrete box culvert.

This will reduce flood risk to the properties on Meadow Street and Princess Street, which flooded in June 2007.

The cost of the renewal scheme is approximately £150,000.

This is the second flood alleviation scheme carried out following the Council's investigations and flood study, which followed the 2007 emergency.

Last year a flood relief channel was constructed by Yorkshire Forward to alleviate flooding to properties on Donstone View and Cramfit Crescent.

Work is also expected to start in April this year on the construction of new drainage along the railway line beside Kensington Close and St Pancras Close, Laughton Common.

While it is not possible to entirely eliminate the flood risk, the combined effect of these works will have a major impact on the incidence of flooding for over 80 properties in the Dinnington and Laughton Common area.
