Double awards delight for housing servicesPublished Friday, 17th March 2017
Not just one but two of Rotherham Council’s housing teams are celebrating success following recognition for the difference they are making to the services that they deliver.
The Contract and Service Delivery team, in partnership with ASSA ABLOY (supplier of intelligent lock and security solutions) recently scooped the ‘Most Innovative New Product award at the Housing Innovation awards in London.
The award recognises how the Council is using new technology to reduce the amount of time taken to re let empty properties, with times reducing by 11 days since introducing the remote key system last year.
Staff undertaking service and maintenance checks can now get access to properties without the need to exchange keys which makes the process much quicker and smoother.
Rotherham Council's Cabinet member for Housing, Councillor Dominic Beck, said: "Well done to all involved in becoming the first Council to pioneer this award winning technology, that is not only making the turnaround times of empty properties much shorter, but also improving the security of properties whilst they are vacant.
"This is good news for anyone who needs to move quickly and means less properties are stood empty at any one time."
Within days of this award success, the Council was also shortlisted for Excellence in Tenant Engagement at the Northern region TPAS awards, which recognise housing organisations that are making a real difference to lives and communities.
This news further demonstrates a commitment to ensuring tenants have the chance to be involved in things that matter to them and that they have an opportunity to make a difference.
Councillor Beck added: "We are fully committed to engaging with our tenants and this is yet more recognition that our customers are at the heart of everything we do. Being shortlisted is a fantastic achievement that acknowledges the good work that the Council and partners are doing on a daily basis to help improve lives and neighbourhoods."
The Council has also been shortlisted for TPAS excellence in contractor engagement in partnership with Mears (who are responsible for repairs and maintenance on our properties) and RotherFed (Rotherham Tenants Federation) has nominated active tenant Pat Cahillfor Tenant of the Year who has been shortlisted.;
All winners will be announced on 7th April at an awards ceremony in Manchester.
