Changes to The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust’s Integrated Sexual Health Services

Published Friday, 31st March 2017 health, hospital,

From 1 April 2017, all Rotherham sexual health advice, testing, treatment and contraceptive services will operate from one central point at Rotherham Hospital and at outreach services in the community

Sexual health and contraception services previously provided at Rotherham Community Health Centre will now be delivered from Rotherham Hospital.

The service provides confidential advice, testing and free treatment of sexually transmitted infections and HIV, as well as a full range of contraception.

Dr Nadi Gupta, Lead Consultant for Rotherham’s Integrated Sexual Health Services explains: “Services were delivered over two sites so patients were travelling between them for appointments. We talked with patients and colleagues about the way forward and as a result we decided to move the services together at the hospital and operate a 7-day service. In addition, there will be a range of community based youth clinics including some based in the town centre. We will be working in partnership with Yorkshire MESMAC, a multi-award winning sexual health charity to enable us to optimise engagement with vulnerable people in the community. With these changes we can offer a more comprehensive service to people in Rotherham.”

Chair of the Rotherham Sexual Health Strategy Group and Rotherham Council’s Cabinet Member for Public Health, Councillor David Roche, said: “I’m very pleased that this newly integrated service will provide even better support than before to our local residents with their sexual health needs. The improved service will also be extended within community settings throughout the borough, such as community centres, by working with voluntary sector organisations. This will allow even more access to our highly experienced staff, offering a more highly integrated service in our friendly, non-judgmental settings.”

The confidential service will be available, at the hospital on C Level, Junction 3, seven days a week:

  • Monday - Thursday: 9am-8pm
  • Friday: 9am-5pm
  • Saturday: 10am-2pm
  • Sunday: 11am-2pm

A range of community based youth clinics are also provided at the following times and locations:

  • Wath Comprehensive School: Monday 12.30-1.30pm
  • JADE Young Person's Centre, Dinnington: Monday 3-5pm
  • Dearne Valley College: Tuesday 11.45am-1.30pm
