Community history project at reunion

Published Thursday 18th March 10

Calling all ex-Templeborough steel workers - you are invited to attend a local reunion!

The reunion, which is open to all ex-Templeborough steel workers, is being held at Rotherham Cricket Club, Clifton Lane on Friday March 26 from 7.30pm until late.

The event is free entry and for more information please contact organiser, Richard Poole on 07870479902.

A representative will be there from the 'Songs of Steel' Community Oral History Project, who will be on hand to record any stories and poignant memories of the ex-steel workers.

They are also keen to hear from anyone who can remember songs particular to the steelworks which were sung in the works before the arrival of the electric arc furnaces.

If you know of a song or poem please contact sam.smith@rotherham.gov.uk or on 01709 823660.

The final content of the Songs of Steel Project will contribute towards an exhibition at Magna in June 2010, which will then travel to local libraries.

The project is inspired by the successful Steelos 'Songs Of Steel' Radio 2 Ballads, which won a Sony award. The project is being funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
