Inter faith tree planting event

An innovative inter-faith tree planting event took place in Rotherham on Saturday.
People from all different faiths or no faith backgrounds planted five trees in Ferham Park as a symbol of love and understanding between the different communities across the Borough.
The planting of the 'small leaved limes' was organised by the Council as a family event to allow people the opportunity to meet others and plant trees which are both good for the environment and represent the growing strength of local relationships.
The trees, that will grow to a height of seven feet, have been supplied by the authority's Green Spaces Unit.
Cllr Mahroof Hussain, Cabinet Member for Community Development and Engagement, described them as a perfect symbol of good community relations and friendships.
The Leader of the 'One Town, One Community' campaign added: "Trees are all individuals but together they form a powerful contribution to our local environment. In the same way Rotherham people come from very different backgrounds but together form a very positive force for good."
Rotherham MP Denis MacShane, who also attended the event, said: "I am delighted to be taking part in this event. Planting trees together is a great way for those of all faiths and no faiths to come together and demonstrate a shared commitment to this community. As they grow they will be a very visible sign of the growing strength of local relationships in this community."
