From teaching knitting, family history, crafts, IT skills and reading, Rotherham residents can volunteer at Rotherham Libraries across the borough.

Are you retired and looking to keep busy? A parent with time to spare whilst the children are at school? Or maybe you’re a student looking for work experience that will fit around your studies?

Whatever your personal situation, your local library has an opportunity waiting just for you.

Being a volunteer enables people to meet people and make friends, develop and learn new skills. It will boost participants CV’s and also gives them the opportunity to support their local community library.

It has also been proved that people who offer an act of kindness report an improvement in their mental health and wellbeing.

Rotherham Council’s Cabinet Member for Cleaner, Greener communities Cllr Sarah Allen, said: “We recognise the added value that volunteers bring by offering their time, skills, experience and commitment in order to extend and enhance the services that the libraries provide.

“People can join in a wide range of fun and exciting events which volunteers can help with such as knitting groups, crafting fun, family history, IT support, Summer Reading Challenge and holiday activities. It is a unique opportunity to share your hobbies and experiences.”

Rotherham Libraries have volunteering opportunities available at: Aston Library and Neighbourhood Hub, Brinsworth Library, Dinnington Library and Neighbourhood Hub, Greasbrough Library, Kimberworth Library, Kiveton Park Library, Maltby Library, Mowbray Gardens Library, Rawmarsh Library and Neighbourhood Hub, Riverside Library, Swinton Library and Neighbourhood Hub, Thorpe Hesley Library, Thurcroft Library, Wath Library and Wickersley Library.

These volunteering roles will help people visiting the library and assist Library staff in delivering family activities and schemes in a pleasant and friendly environment.
