Three of Rotherham’s green spaces have this week been recognised by the Green Flag Award Scheme as being one of the very best in the UK.

Clifton, Greasbrough and Ulley parks are amongst a record-breaking 2000 UK parks and green spaces that today received a prestigious Green Flag Award – the mark of a quality park or green space.

This international award, is a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible environmental standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent visitor facilities.

Clifton Park, which has been awarded the Green Flag for the tenth year in a row, has also achieved the much-coveted Green Heritage Site Accreditation for its management of the historic features for the third year running.

Rotherham Council’s Cabinet Member Cleaner, Greener Communities, Cllr Sarah Allen, said: “We are really delighted to receive a Green Flag Award for not just one of our parks, but three. We know how much quality green spaces matter to residents and visitors, and this award celebrates the dedication that goes into maintaining our parks to such a high standard

“Clifton, Greasbrough and Ulley are very popular with families, not only those who live in Rotherham, but many from outside the borough too. The award is a tribute to all those working hard to keep everything looking beautiful for visitors and to all of the visitors who take care of the parks when they use them.”

Tonight Rotherham Town Hall will be joining buildings and landmarks across the country, including the White Cliffs of Dover, the London Stadium and Salford’s Media City, when it will be illuminated green. The lights are to celebrate Rotherham’s Green Flag Award success and to say a massive thank you to the parks staff, volunteers and the Green Flag Award Judges for all their work this year.

Commenting on Rotherham’s success, Keep Britain Tidy Chief Executive Allison Ogden-Newton OBE said: “This year, more than ever, our parks and green spaces have been a lifeline and we know that millions of people have used them to relax, meet friends, exercise or simply escape for a short time.

“It is testament to the incredible dedication and hard work of parks staff and volunteers that, despite the challenges that went along with record numbers of visitors, Rotherham Council has achieved the highest international standards demanded by the Green Flag Award.”
