Rotherham celebrates innovative economic investmentPublished Wednesday, 6th August 2014
The newly appointed Cabinet Member for Business Growth and Regeneration for Rotherham has been witnessing first-hand the important work the town is doing to promote business in the borough.
Councillor Dominic Beck, who became the Cabinet Member for Business Growth and Regeneration, which includes RiDO (Rotherham Investment and Development Office) in May, was delighted to be asked to view the brand new Business Lounge that has been opened adjacent to the reception area at Moorgate Crofts Business Centre.
The lounge comes as the latest development following 13 years of success since the opening of the first RiDO centre at the Century Business Centre in Manvers.
Those remarkable 13 years have seen RiDO help over 540 companies and the creation of over 1,800 jobs.
After viewing the new lounge, Cllr Beck said: "By any standards RiDO has been an incredible success story.
"Even in our current economic climate early stage companies have thrived with a three year survival rate of 85.4 per cent against a national average of 44 per cent.
"Once again Rotherham is bucking the national trend and the support offered to companies has been invaluable in cementing their success.
"The newly opened area can be seen as a metaphor for the whole organisation in that it is vibrant, innovative and encourages local businesses.
"It is available for use free of charge by Rotherham based small to medium sized enterprises. However, that is just the starting point as there are a wide range of office services are available at low costs including photocopying, printing and binding.
"I thoroughly enjoyed my visit, meeting and chatting with the businesses, occupants and staff there. I was impressed at both the quality of the Business Centres and the support offered to start up and small businesses.
"It was great to hear that even in this tough economic climate businesses were healthy and on a growth path.
"I have nothing but praise for the fantastic folk who are making the centre a haven for local growth and investment. It is essential that Rotherham encourages new business and I cannot praise the work that is taking place here too highly."
Cllr Beck also toured the other RiDO Business Centres, located at Manvers, Fusion @ Magna and Matrix @ Dinnington. At each one he met the clients who were using the facilities to rapidly become Rotherham's next generation of business people and the staff who were developing innovative methods to help them.
Businesses who would like more information about the available facilities can visit the RiDO website.
