Classic Christmas films come to Rotherham
Published Thursday 17th December 09
Rotherham will be enjoying classic Christmas cinema this festive season, with an added little present thrown in to make the experience an even tastier one.
Screened as part of the ongoing Film @ the Cinema season, the 1994 Richard Attenborough version of Miracle on 34th Street and the 2001 retelling of Christmas Carol: The Movie, starring Kate Winslet, will be shown at Rotherham Arts Centre on Tuesday 22 and Wednesday 23 December, both at 2.30pm
As well as allowing visitors to enjoy two of the finest Christmas films on the massive 5m x 5.4m screen, complemented by a state-of-the-art sound system, staff will also be handing out free mince pies to everyone to add to the festive feeling.
Rotherham Theatre's Manager, Mark "Santa" Scott, said: "Film @ the Studio has been an amazing success this year and to say thank you we thought it would be great to end 2009 with some truly classic Christmas films which are so much better when enjoyed on the big screen with your family around you.
"These two heart-warming films are guaranteed to capture the hearts of the whole family. With the free mince pies, the experience will be even better.
"We're delighted that we can offer cinema-lovers a much more personal experience than their local multiplex.
"Not only can you not see these classic films on the big screen anymore, but we're are also only charging a fraction of the amount the multiplexes charge. Adult tickets are just £3, children's tickets £2.50 and Two Ten Club members only £2."
Miracle on 34th Street sees a little girl discover that dreams do come true if you really believe. Six-year old Susan has doubts about Santa Claus. The arrival of Kriss Kringle as the real Santa in a department store, turns the unbelieving child's world upside down and shows everyone the true meaning of Christmas.
Christmas Carol: The Movie sees Dickens' classic novel brought to vivid life in animated form. Everyone in London Old Town, including Gabriel the mouse, Tiny Tim and Nurse Belle are looking forward to Christmas, everyone that is, except the grumpy, miserly Ebenezer Scrooge.
Will Scrooge see the error of his ways after being visited by his old work partner, Jacob Marley?
You can get tickets for the films by calling the Box Office on 01709 823621 or by visiting Box Office, located in the Central Library and Arts Centre on Walker Place, in person, either in advance or on the day.
