A-level results 2010

More Rotherham students than ever before have taken their A-Levels this year and the numbers of them gaining passes has risen for the fourth consecutive year.

This year 2580 students (around 200 more than last year) took academic and vocational A-Level courses and overall 97.4% of students gained passes (a rise of 1.1% on last year).

Among those general figures there were a number of individual success stories at schools around the borough.

- Swinton - 99.5% up 6.2%
- Dinnington - 95.6% up 4.7%
- Aston - 98.6% up 1%

Individual student successes included:

4A* - James Drinkell and Dale Waterhouse (both Maltby), Charlotte Cutts (Wath - all received one A grade), Owen Jones (Wickersley).
3A* - Lucas Brammar (Wales), Oliver Organ (Swinton), Sophie Frith (Dinnington), Aaron Morris and Daniel Rogan (Wickersley).
2A* and 2A - Jennifer Lowson (Wales), Jessica Large (Dinnington).

Councillor Paul Lakin, Cabinet Member for Safeguarding and Developing Learning Opportunities for Children, said: "Our congratulations go out to all those students who have received these excellent exam results and we would also like to express our thanks to everyone who has supported them throughout their studies.

"This year the challenges that young people face moving on to Higher Education and the job market have grown and so it is especially pleasing to see the overall pass rate in Rotherham rise for the fourth year running."
