Could your child be the star of the panto?

Published Thursday 2nd September 10

Dancers from across Rotherham with the potential to be the star of the show are being invited to try out for roles in the Civic Theatre’s festive spectacular, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

December will see the return of panto to Rotherham and, with this year promising to be the biggest and best ever, the call has gone out for Rotherham's next generation of dancing superstars to make the show complete.

Taking place in the Arts Centre Studio Theatre in the Central Library and Arts Centre, Walker Place , on Sunday September 26 starting at 3pm , the successful performers will have the chance to line up alongside West End star Darren Day when the curtain goes up on the biggest show of the year.

Auditions for Female Juvenile Dancers get underway at 3pm prompt. Hopefuls must be over 6 years old, a maximum height of 4'8 and have modern jazz training and a big smile.

Following that, at 4.30pm prompt, will be the auditions for the all important role of the Dwarfs.

Actors can be either male or female, aged over 6 years old, with a maximum height of 5'0. Due to the fact the lucky performers will be wearing oversized heads as part of the costume, anyone who auditions must not be claustrophobic.

Rounding off the day at 6pm will be the auditions for the Female Senior Dancers.

Hopefuls will need to be 14 years old and over, a minimum height of 5'2, have all round dance talent and have a great stage presence.

Theatre Manager Mark Scott said: "The youngsters who took part in the last panto had the time of their lives with many of the cast finding that it was an excellent first step on the ladder to bigger and better things. Hopefully the lucky few this year will take the stage by storm.

"We're looking for dedicated, but fun-loving people who have a real zest for the stage. They'll have to have great stamina as there'll be dozens of performances over a six week period as well as having 100% commitment to putting on a great show day after day."

Parents of those auditioning should also note that some absence from school may be required.

If you require any further information about the auditions, or to book tickets for this year's panto, starting Friday December 3, please call the box office on 01709 823621.
