Clifton Park Youth Culture Exhibition

Clifton Park Museum

For the first time ever Clifton Park Museum will be co-producing an exciting exhibition led by the Young Curators Group.

For the first time ever Clifton Park Museum will be co-producing an exciting exhibition led by the Young Curators Group. They want you, the people of Rotherham to start digging through your shoe boxes, under your beds and up in your lofts to help us create a picture of youth culture in Rotherham from 1960’s – 2021.

We want to hear your stories, showcase your objects and flip through your photos to help us to tell a story of youth culture, both past and present. From Punk Rock to TikTok, Vinyl’s to Vine, we want to collect and share your memories and objects past and present, exploring what youth means to you.

Clifton Park Museum’s Youth Curators Group have been meeting for over a year and form part of the Place Makers Future Shapers, Heritage Lottery Fund project. The project focuses on working with young people aged 15 - 25 to explore and make improvements to heritage engagement at the museum, enabling local young people to explore heritage, improve service delivery and to also provide opportunities for young people to develop their skills and knowledge.

The Youth Curators Group are looking at five main themes and need your help to bring this exhibition to life, by using your own personal collections including objects and photographs, then and now -

-    Music - Gig tickets, posters, fanzines, album art, records, cassettes, CD Players, Walkman’s, MP3s, iPods, Spotify, YouTube and more.
-    Fashion - Items and pictures of clothing, styles, accessories and don’t forget photos of those old dodgy haircuts.
-    Bedrooms – A safe space with all your hidden treasures. What did your bedroom mean to you?
-    Communication - Pen pals, telephones, mobiles, tablets, smart phones or voice notes.
-    Games and gaming – Skittles, pick up sticks, marbles, board games, arcade games - Pacman, and Space Invaders, game boys, PlayStation, Xbox and Virtual Reality.

If you would like to get involved in this exciting opportunity and include your objects and photos in our upcoming exhibition please contact Collections Officer – Karl.Noble@rotherham.gov.uk or Youth Heritage Officer – Victoria.Hilton@rotherham.gov.uk for further details. The deadline for expression of interest is 11th March 2021 5pm.
