B&Q lends helping hand to Rotherham’s Carers

DIY giants, B&Q, are showing their compassionate side and lending a helping hand to Rotherham’s Carers.
The superstore, based in the new Parkgate Retail Park, will be opening their doors on Wednesday November 3 and inviting Rotherham's estimated 32,000 carers for tea, coffee and cake and to sign them up for an exclusive 10 per cent discount card.
Arranged in partnership with Rotherham Borough Council's Carers Forum, information, support and free training on any DIY issues will all be on offer at the event, which will be taking place between 10am - 4pm.
As well as representatives from the Carers Forum, the police will be available to talk to about any safety and security issues and staff from B&Q itself will be on hand to offer basic training on everything from how to change a plug to what the best drill to use is.
They will also be offering carers further free training at a later date.
B&Q were approached by Carers Forum at a recent One Town One Community event and instantly got on board with the idea.
The sturdy plastic card, which will be for people who are registered carers only, aims to take some of the strain from a section of the community that can often feel the most vulnerable.
Carers Forum Co-ordinator, Jeanette Mallinder, said: "This is a great show of support in recognition of the valuable work carers do in Rotherham. I'd like to thank B&Q for this kind gesture and urge all carers in Rotherham to sign up for it."
Kristiaan Ward, Senior Service Manager at B&Q in Rotherham, said they were more than happy to support carers in Rotherham. "We would love people to come down and take away some great DIY advice from our friendly experts and see what we have to offer in store."
The Mayor of Rotherham, Cllr Rose McNeely, will be visiting at 1.30pm to officially open the event.
