Extended opportunities for families to learn

Published Wednesday 27th October 10

Families across Rotherham are being given a whole range of opportunities to learn together and find out more about what's on offer to them around the borough.

As part of Family Learning Week, Rotherham Council's Extended Learning Team has organised a Family Learning Festival during the half-term holiday where children, parents, grandparents and carers can all play and learn together.

And every day's main event will have an extra special sporting element with players from Rotherham United and the Rotherham Titans joining in.

The festival kicks off at Maltby Leisure Centre on Monday October 25, between 10am and 3pm before moving to the following venues:

Tuesday 26th 10am to 3pm - Aston-cum-Aughton Leisure Centre Wednesday 27th 10am to 3pm - The Old Market Building, Corporation Street Thursday 28th - sessions running throughout the day at the Try Line Centre Friday 29th - 10am to 3pm - Rotherham Leisure Complex

In addition the Festival team is taking over a stall in Rotherham's Outdoor Market on Tuesday (26th) and Wednesday (27th) from 8.30am to 1pm so you can play and learn as well as find out more about what learning opportunities are on offer across Rotherham.

And, if that's not enough, there will also be information stands and activities at the Fair's Fayre event at Magna on Thursday (28th) and at Dalton Foljambe Primary School Family Fun Day on Monday (25th) from 10am to 1pm.

Councillor Paul Lakin, Cabinet Member for Safeguarding and Developing Learning Opportunities for Children, said: "I'd encourage everyone to get along to one of these events as it's a great chance to open new doors for you and your family to learn more.

"Learning isn't just about schools. How families support their children's development is equally important and of course, you can always learn something new, whatever your age or background."
