Join Rotherham’s carers for a festive treat
Published Monday 29th November 10
Rotherham’s carers will be celebrating a spectacular achievement this December and are inviting members of the public to join them for a day of mince pies and information.
A few weeks ago, Rotherham Borough Council's Carers Service got their heads together with the managers at the new B&Q in Parkgate and arranged for Rotherham's estimated 32,000 carers to receive a 10% discount card from the big-hearted store.
To celebrate the fact, help encourage more people to become carers and to give existing carers more information about their rights and what they can apply for, Rotherham Carers Service will be holding a stall outside Boots on Friday December 3.
Representatives from support groups will be on hand to chat to anyone with anyone with questions or concerns, they'll be information on how to become a carer, B&Q will be there to offer a one-day-only 20% discount heat conservation products and, to bring a festive flavour to the proceedings, free mince pies will be handed out.
The Mayor of Rotherham, Cllr Rose McNeely, will also be showing her support by visiting the stall at 12 noon.
Carers Forum Coordinator, Jeanette Mallinder, said: "I hope everyone will come down and join us, it'll be chilly but the warmth you get from other carers makes it worth the while.
"B&Q have been absolutely fantastic with us every step of the way and I'd like to thank them from the bottom of my heart. Carers can often be overlooked so the more help you get the better.
"By forming a network you can help support each other and events like this are perfect for it."
