Rotherham refuse collection disrupted

Collections on most main routes have been completed. However, bins on many side roads remain inaccessible.

Refuse teams are being accompanied by gritters to try and reach as many residents as possible and green bin collections have been temporarily suspended to accommodate more black bin collections.

A Rotherham Council spokesperson said: "The situation will be reviewed on a daily basis and we hope this isn't too much of an inconvenience to people.

"We're putting all our resources in trying to get the collections back on schedule, but, as you can appreciate, taking a large lorry down slippery side streets will be a danger not only to property and members of the public, but also our refuse teams."
