The festive spectacular that is Rotherham’s pantomime is getting the best Christmas present of all - the show is not only one of the best-selling ever but is also receiving rave reviews too!
Since they went on sale in April, panto fans have been snapping up tickets for 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs being staged at the Civic Theatre until Sunday, January 9. Its success is mainly thanks to the hilarious jokes, an all-star cast and, of course, the classic story of Snow White, the seven dwarfs and her meeting the handsome prince.
Over 24,000 tickets have been sold so far, proving beyond doubt that when it comes to panto Rotherham is rapidly becoming one of the best in Yorkshire. Oh no it isn't, oh yes it is!
Despite being hard at work preparing and performing in the pantomime, the cast, who by Christmas Day will have performed in 40 of the manic two-and-a-half-hour shows, are all looking forward to their Christmas day at home and then continuing with their performances throughout the festive season.
West End and television star Darren Day said: "All of us here at the Civic Theatre, cast, crew and management, would like to wish panto fans across Rotherham, and South Yorkshire, a very Merry Christmas".
"so far, the audiences have been amazing. I love a northern panto audience - families out to have a good time - and the warmth and laughter really gives us energy to keep on delivering a fun time for everyone."
Steps star Lee Latchford Evans who is sharing the role of Prince Antonio with Darren Day, added: "I would like to wish all the people of Rotherham a fantastic Christmas and a wonderful New Year."
With over 25 people on stage and dozens more behind the scenes, from the first rehearsals in November to the end of the run mid-January, the cast and crew come together as one big family, something which helps everyone through the busy, but fun, schedule, especially at Christmas time.
Snow White herself, actress Stephanie Dooley said: "I am delighted to be appearing as Snow White in Rotherham. I'm a Yorkshire lass, and it's always a pleasure to work close to home because I always think Yorkshire panto audiences are the best, the loudest and have the most fun.
"It's great that I get to play Snow White this year, because she is my daughter Maddy's favourite. She already has her Snow White costume hanging ready to wear, so I hope all the other little girls will dress up in their favourite outfits and bring their Mums, Dads and brothers along and have a wonderful panto-time with us."
Theatre Manager Mark Scott added: "As ever, the audience has been wonderful. Not only have they been supporting us in their tens of thousands, but also been the loudest and most fun I can remember at the Civic".
"Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs panto is one of the best shows we have ever had. Spillers Pantomimes have produced another amazing show and have proved that, it doesn't matter if it's a 'traditional' pantomime, audiences love sing-a-long songs, fun, laughter and a fantastic cast, which we have in abundance."
