First sod cut at Rawmarsh Customer Service Centre

Work starts this week on a new combined one-stop council and health centre for the residents of Rawmarsh.
At 1.30 pm on Wednesday January 26, the first sod will be cut to start the building work for the new Rawmarsh Customer Service Centre on the site of the former leisure centre at Barbers Avenue, Rawmarsh.
Rawmarsh Ward Councillor, Neil Hamilton, and NHS Rotherham's Chairman, Alan Tolhurst, will perform the ceremony, accompanied by Rawmarsh ward councillors, Glyn Whelbourn and Shaun Wright.
The project is a joint venture between the Council and NHS Rotherham and is the sixth new Customer Service Centre to be opened by the Council since 2005. It is also the third joint venture offering health facilities provided by NHS Rotherham, the other two being at Maltby and Aston.
On the ground floor, the £5 million building will provide access to council services and a new library in addition to new changing facilities for users of the adjacent sports field. Local people will also be able to access community health services together with a GP practice and pharmacy.
The first floor will accommodate the community meeting room and council staff accommodation plus an administration section for NHS Rotherham staff.
The new building will also offer ample car parking spaces for the public with the whole area benefiting from landscaped surroundings.
The new service centre is being built by Henry Boot Construction Ltd., who expect to complete the scheme by next January.
