Admission of success for Rotherham students
Published Monday 28th February 11
More than 3,000 Rotherham students will be heading off to their first choice of secondary school in September after 97% of them got into the school they wanted in this year's round of admissions.
Figures published today (Monday) in Rotherham show that the borough's schools and the Council's admissions team have, for the second year running, hit the 97% figure for students receiving their first choice of school.
Even adding in those students who live outside the borough but want to be taught in Rotherham schools, the overall figure still reaches 95% of first preferences.
Councillor Paul Lakin, Cabinet Member for Safeguarding and Developing Learning Opportunities for Children, said: "This is again a great achievement for our schools and our admissions team which co-ordinates the process for all secondary schools in the borough including the local academies.
"It is clear from these figures that our local schools remain popular with people in Rotherham and we work very hard to ensure that we can meet the desire of parents to have their children educated in our schools."
The total number of applications for a school place was slightly up on last year (3422), reaching 3,443 this year. The figures also show that 99% of applicants received at least one of their choices on their application form.
