A taste of Spain inspires Rawmarsh
Published Wednesday 2nd March 11
Parents and students recently took over Monkwood Primary School to share a taste of Spain with Rawmarsh students and families.
A small group of parent and student ambassadors from Rawmarsh Community School have been working together as part of the Inspiring Communities project, Rawmarsh, Valencia & Me, to explore the similarities and differences between the Rawmarsh and Valencian community.
Having taken part in an educational visit to Valencia, the parent and student ambassadors experienced life and learning in Spain and have brought back their learning to share with the community in Rawmarsh.
Recently, the parents and students took over Monkwood Primary after school hours to host a range of fun, practical and innovative learning activities which helped to share their experience of life and learning in Spain.
All of the activities were developed and delivered by the parents and students themselves to over 100 attendees at the event.
Throughout this project parents and students have developed a range of skills from improved literacy and communication to several enterprise skills including; teamwork, organising and planning, positive attitude, initiative and product and service design.
Parents have also worked closely with staff to explore a range of parenting skills and approaches to improving relationships in the home.
Becky Mollart, Rotherham Ready Schools Liaison Officer, who has been working on the project commented: "I'm so proud of what the group have achieved. From starting this project as a team who barely knew each other, relationships have grown into lifelong friendships. The skills which the students and parents equally have developed are outstanding and will stay them for a long time."
