Musical legend to perform sell out show in Rotherham

Published Thursday 10th March 11

A timeless music and comedy hero comes to Rotherham Civic Theatre this month as Joe Longthorne brings his new show to the town.

The show sold out within weeks, proving that Joe is just as popular as he was when he started out over three decades ago.

This talented artist began his career with appearances on "Junior Showtime", followed by a grounding on the tough Northern club circuit.

His big break came in 1981 when he was a finalist on London Weekend Television's "Search for a Star", which lead to appearances "At the London Palladium" with Bob Hope and "The Talk of the Town".

A short time later, Joe received the "Variety Club of Britain" award as Most Promising Artist of the Year. Television specials in both the UK and USA followed.

Joe's repertoire of voices is endless and includes hundreds of the world's top singers. However, he is perhaps best known for his impersonation of Shirley Bassey who has commented, "Joe can do me better than I can do myself".

During his career, Joe has received gold and platinum discs for his albums, enjoyed sell-out concerts at the Royal Albert Hall, as well as touring Australia several times.

Mark Scott commented: "We have some great acts on at the Civic this season with big names from the world of comedy and music, there's something for everyone!

"It's testament to the wonderful Rotherham audience that household names like Joe are now coming to the Civic Theatre.

"Don't be too disappointed if you've missed out on Joe, there are still a host of fantastic shows on for all ages."
