Support Rotherham’s red-nosed ranger
Published Thursday 10th March 11
Comic Relief day is fast approaching and one plucky Rotherham park ranger is getting set to support it in his own unique way.
Daniel Ryan, café assistant and relief ranger at Rotherham's Thrybergh Country Park, will be running the equivalent of a marathon on Friday March 18 around the park's lake in a bid to raise cash for the charity.
To add to the fun of day, he will be dressed head-to-toe in red during the 26-mile run and will have his legs waxed after the marathon has been completed.
Members of the public are being asked to support Daniel by donating on the day, by buying the special "Red Nose" bun in the lakeside café, and cheering him on.
Fellow park ranger, John Jackson, commented: "We're all very proud of Daniel. There's no guarantee that the weather will be perfect on the day and he's committed to carrying out the run whether it be sun, rain or snow.
"Comic Relief is such a great charity to support, they help people who desperately need it both in England and abroad. For example, £2 can pay for a runaway child in the UK to receive confidential help via texts, or £15 can help to vaccinate 40 children in Africa against Malaria.
"We're hoping as many people as possible will join us by the lake on the 18th to support Daniel on his run, enjoy the wonderful countryside, visit the lakeside café and dig deep in into their pockets.
"If Daniel is willing to run 26 miles in, potentially, snow, wind or rain, for this fantastic cause, the least we can do is be there to cheer him on."
The event will begin at 9am and will conclude at approximately 3pm.
