Call for Rotherham voters to make sure they can vote on 5 May
Published Thursday 10th March 11
Figures published by the Office of National Statistics recently show that there are 192,921 people registered to vote in Rotherham.
Martin Kimber, Electoral Registration Officer, is urging some residents that they need to act now if they are to have their say at the Local Government Elections and UK referendum on the voting system to the UK Parliament taking place on Thursday 5 May.
"Anyone who has moved house in the past few months, and needs to register at their new address, should already have received a letter and registration form. If so, they should fill in the form and send it back to Electoral Services. If however, they haven't received a form and have not registered to vote, they can request a registration form by calling Electoral Services on 01709 823590 or by printing off a registration form.
Barbara Lines, Regional Manager, North of England, from the Electoral Commission, the independent elections watchdog, adds: "Residents may also be planning to be away on 5 May, given the extra Bank Holiday for the Royal Wedding. So it's worth applying now to vote by post or proxy if that will suit your plans."
You can request an application form from Electoral Services on 01709 823590 or print off the forms from www.aboutmyvote.co.uk.
