Delicacies of the past brought back to life

Published Wednesday 6th April 11

Rotherham’s Clifton Park Museum is setting out to bring back to life delicious delicacies from England’s past in a day of history and food.

Taking place at the twice-nominated "Museum of the Year" on Wednesday April 20 between 10am - 3pm, the free "Discover 17th Century cooking" event is a chance to see fascinating cooking demonstrations based on life in the 17th Century, specifically, the English Civil War period.

To add to the authenticity, re-enactors in 17th century costume will be cooking the culinary delights on the Museum's Victorian Range with recipes set to include honey cake, cheese pie, biscuits and marmalade.

Visitor Service Assistant, Lorna Pedley, said: "Everyone is welcome to this tasty event to discover the smells and tastes of 400 years ago.

"You'll be given the chance to taste a sample of some of the food and, if you like it, you'll be able to buy some of the cakes in the granary café.

"You don't need to come in fancy dress, or even have an interest in that period of time, you only need a love for great food to come and enjoy the fantastic atmosphere."
