Rotherham folk are being invited to 'Mix it with the Mayor' this weekend.
'Mixin'it with the Mayor'is a live music event taking place in All Saints' Square to celebrate the installation of Rotherham's new first citizen, Coun. Shaun Wright.
From 10.30 am on Saturday, May 21, the Square will provide the backdrop for a whole host of music events, beginning with live entertainment, when the town will be treated to well-known shows tunes by a classical singer.
At 11.30 am there will be MC workshops with guest MC Pius from the Get Sorted Music Academy along with martial arts demonstrations. At 12 noon this will be followed by Redroad FM complete with DJ's and presenters.
An hour later at 1pm local chart topper Jay Mya, will be on stage performing his hit single among many others, and he will be followed at 1.30 pm by Andy Copeland and Rob Mallinder, the resident DJ's at Pop, who will entertain with hits from the last three decades.
The event follows the annual Mayor's parade through Rotherham Town Centre that starts from the Town Hall at 10.30 am and which makes its way to the Rotherham Minster for an 11 am service to celebrate the installation of the new Mayor the previous day.
Younger children will not be left out either as there will be Kidzone activities taking place on the new event space outside Boots. Youngsters will find farm animals, market stalls, balloon modelling, activity workshops, facepainting and even scarecrow making.
Coun. Shaun Wright, current Deputy Mayor of Rotherham, said he was looking forward to visiting the event. He added: "It will be taking place outside as the Civic Service is held inside the Minster. Hopefully, I will get the chance to visit later in the day and attend one of my first events as Mayor of Rotherham, which I am delighted to see is one geared to attracting the young people of the town and getting them involved in workshops and music."
