Panto star set to get Rotherham in the mood for dancing!Published Thursday, 11th June 2015
Rotherham Theatres are proud to announce the star of the 2015 pantomime, Cinderella.
Maureen Nolan, better known as a member of the chart-conquering Nolan Sisters, has been confirmed as the headline name for this year’s production, taking on the role of the Fairy Godmother.
West End star and panto veteran, Maureen, who has previously starred in productions such as Blood Brothers, Stardust and Footloose, will be taking to the stage of the Civic Theatre this December, backed by an all-star cast and a show packed with fun, excitement, music and magic.
Rotherham Theatre’s Manager, Mark Scott, said: “Make no mistake about it, securing Maureen for this year’s panto is a major coup for Rotherham Theatres.
“She has 40 years’ worth of experience entertaining everyone from Royals to stadiums and theatres packed with thousands.
“She’s the perfect person to play such a famous fairy-tale character and will be fabulous at bringing the role to life and getting the audience in the mood for magic.”
Alongside the announcement of Maureen being cast for the role, Rotherham Theatres are also welcoming back production company, Shone Productions, who helped to make last years’ show such a success.
“Shone Productions will once again be returning after a barnstorming first year with us, alongside a live band, who helped to bring the production to life and really improved the atmosphere of the show,” Mark added.
“Considering the success of last years’ production, this one should be a cracker. Cinderella is the perfect tale for Christmas with the right sprinkling of great tunes, fun, laughter, evil sisters to hiss at and a love story to warm you up on those cold December nights.”
Joining Maureen on stage will be handsome Carl Tracey from the Nickelodeon “Go!Go!Go!” show.
Former Diesel Model Carl, who will be playing the prince, has also brought the stage to life in past performances of “Peter Pan” and the Shakespearian classic “A Comedy of Errors”.
Cinders herself will be played by X Factor hopeful Sophie Wysoczanski, who wowed Simon Cowell and the judges in 2010.
Talented Sophie, who is as equally adept at bringing the stage to life as a singer, actress or dancer, has performed lead roles in over 30 productions at venues as far afield as the Edinburgh Festival, Alhambra Theatre and the Royal Pageant.
She has also appeared in Television programmes such as “Emmerdale”, “Band of Gold”, “Nickelodeon” and “Brontes” by Ken Russell and has even performed for Her Majesty the Queen.
Comedy duties will be handled by Rollo the Entertainer, who will be playing Cinderella’s loyal confidant Buttons.
Mark concluded: "I've no doubt that with Maureen, Sophie, Carl and Rollo, the live band and a lively production, this year will be a special one for panto fans in Rotherham."
Tickets for Cinderella are on sale now and can be purchased safely, securely and quickly via the Rotherham Theatres website.
