Rotherham welcomes innovative new Care Centre

Published Wednesday 6th July 11

A new facility situated in the heart of Rotherham is set to open and give first-class care to patients across the borough.

The Rotherham Intermediate Care Centre, located on Badsley Moor Lane, is a joint partnership between Rotherham Council and Rotherham Foundation Trust.

The centre is set to provide new rehabilitation facilities within a day setting for the people of Rotherham.

To celebrate the opening of the new facility, there will be a drop-in event on Friday July 8 between 10am-3pm.

This will be a chance for health and social care practitioners and members of the public to find out what intermediate care services are available for residents with the aim of increasing their independence and enhance quality of life.

The new centre will work as an intermediate care hub, bringing together therapists, specialist mental health workers and support workers who are providing services to promote and maximise independence following a patient's recent episode in hospital, change in functional abilities or a worsening of their long-term condition.

The new service will provide activities which are tailor-made to a patient's own interests and abilities.

This may, for example, be delivered through physical activity, creative activities such as card making, painting, photography, needlework, walking, gardening, meal preparation, training, support and advice in the use of information and mobile technology or sharing an interest of their own with others.

The Mayor of Rotherham, Cllr Shaun Wright, will be officially opening the centre at 1pm.
