Rotherham By the Sea Comes to All Saints Square.

Published Friday 29th July 11

Sand, deckchairs, fish and chips, ice-cream, fun and hopefully sun will be the order of the day as 'Rotherham-by-the-Sea' returns to All Saints’ Square for its ninth year.

Rotherham's town centre square will once again be transformed into a seaside resort for a great week at the beach - without even leaving the borough. This fantastic, fun and free event will be running from Monday, August 8, until  Saturday, August 13, from 10 am until 4.30 pm each day and fingers crossed the sun will be shining all week!

Last year 'Rotherham-by-the-Sea' drew in hundreds of people from around the borough to enjoy the seaside experience which included fun activities for the whole family.

The year's event promises another week of fantastic activities with a funfair, face-painting, a cheerleading workshop, bingo, and a limbo competition to name but a few. Plus, six brilliant theme days including High School Musical, Pirates, Disney, Circus, Hawaiian and last but not least Soldier and Nurses Day!

The fun never stops at 'Rotherham by the Sea'. Children and adults alike will be transported to the seaside with striped deckchairs, tonnes of sand and lots of brilliant entertainment including bingo games for an authentic by-the-sea experience.

There will be a helter skelter again this year, running every day with the exception of Saturday. Also craft workshops will be taking place at the Arts Hub in Imperial Building throughout the week plus on Tuesday you can take part in a pirate treasure hunt organised by ACT for the Rotherham Business Group.

Coun. Gerald Smith, Cabinet Member for Town Centres for Rotherham Borough Council, said: "We are hoping this year's 'Rotherham-by-the-Sea' event will be the best yet as it has become a real tradition in the town centre. The people of Rotherham genuinely look forward to all the activities going on over the week, flocking to the square and really joining in the seaside spirit.

"We are just keeping our fingers crossed for the weather to be kind to us and then we will be set for a week of seaside fun!"
