Rotherham Show gears up

Published Wednesday 10th August 11

Rotherham Show returns in September with a colourful array of arts and crafts, automotive dreams, beauty, passion, excitement and creativity.

Taking place in the beautiful surroundings of Clifton Park on September 10 and 11, the Rotherham Show will once again be hosting the ever-popular Vintage Vehicle Rally and Horticultural Show.

The Horticultural Show will be welcoming hundreds of people as they enter their home-grown wonders and craft masterpieces, to compete for trophies and show off the best the borough has to offer.

As ever, competition for the top prizes will be fierce and the standard of entries is expected to be higher than ever. Everyone is welcome to come along and see if they agree with the judges' decisions.

If you want to take part and enter your arts, crafts, flowers or fruit please call the Leisure and Green Spaces admin team on 01709 822453.

To complement the Horticultural Show, the Vintage Vehicle Rally will be once again wowing the crows with generations of automotive excellence.

With a range of four and two wheeled automotive dreams on show, everything from a 1927 H. H. Franklin, to a 1974 Jensen Healey will be bringing the show to life.

Rotherham Borough Council's Senior Events Officer, Janet Fletcher, said: "The static display both on Saturday and Sunday will be located near to the bandstand which will host a range of music over the weekend.

"We are also pleased to announce that the Vintage Vehicles tour will also be happening again this year around the north of the borough.

"The tour will start at 10.30am from Drummond Street car park (rear of Central Library and Arts Centre) and be lead by the Mayor of Rotherham, Councillor Shaun Wright, finishing in Clifton Park. Everyone's welcome to come down and cheer the vehicles along their way."

Thanks to the free park-and-ride area, you needn't worry about your personal automotive pride-and-joy. Herringthorpe Playing Fields, near the town centre, will be available to park on for free, with a bus shuttle service running every 10 minutes from 10am and throughout the day.

To make sure every aspect of transport is represented, there will also be a "Ride It, Stride It" marquee at the show, which will be all about walking and cycling.

The interactive event includes activities, displays, advice and more, including, "Dr Bike", where you can bring your bike along for a health check and "Improve your Bike Security" where you can get your bike registered and security marked. All for free!

Plus there will be cycle training, an updated Rotherham cycle map and, for white-knuckle enthusiasts, the 3SIXTY Bike Stunt Display Team will be giving a demonstration of their skills.

For those that prefer a more leisurely pace, there will also be the opportunity to find out what walking can do for you and your street with "Living Streets".
