Innovative Performance planned for Rotherham Panto
Published Friday 2nd September 11
Rotherham Theatres are breaking the mould when it comes to making sure that everybody can enjoy this year’s panto.
Staff at Rotherham's Civic Theatre are pleased to announce that they will be having an innovative "relaxed performance" of this year's Pantomime, "Jack and the Beanstalk", on Tuesday December 20 at 11am.
Cabinet Member for Community Development, Equality and Young People's Issues, Cllr. Mahroof Hussain, said: "This is a fantastic idea from Rotherham theatres and will certainly help people who previously haven't been able to see the Panto enjoy a great experience.
"Relaxed performances are designed to provide a more comfortable experience for adults or children who may find it difficult to sit still and stay quiet for the full duration of a theatre performance, or who may feel uncomfortable when a show has a lot of flashing lights and noisy special effects.
"During relaxed performances, theatre staff won't ask the audience to keep quiet and don't mind if people move around or come in and out of the auditorium during the performance.
"Extra lighting is provided during the performance and fewer special effects are used to create a calm and relaxed experience.
"The performance, which will also be signed, will have extra dedicated staff to assist with access and seating.
"The cast and staff are fully behind the idea and aware of the needs of the audience."
