Published Thursday 15th September 11
Film@theCivic, taking place in the Civic Theatre, follows in the footsteps of the ground-breaking Film@theStudio project and is set to bring a feast of cinematic family fun in the perfect surroundings.
Starting with the 1996 version of 101 Dalmatians on Saturday September 17 at 2pm. The heart-warming tale of crafty canines sees the litter of famous Dalmatian puppies abducted by the minions of Cruella De Vil and the following frantic search for them before Cruella uses them for a diabolical fashion statement.
Following that on Saturday October 15, the 2009 version of The Fantastic Mr Fox will be hitting the big screen.
The Oscar-nominated film, which stars George Clooney and Meryl Streep, sees an urbane fox unable to resist returning to his farm-raiding ways and the ensuing aftermath as he is then forced into a desperate fight to help his community survive the farmers' retaliation.
Ending the season is a true classic, 1967's The Jungle Book.
Appearing on the silver screen on Wednesday October 26 at 2pm, the Jungle Book tells the tale of Bagheera the Panther and Baloo the Bear as they embark on an exciting adventure to persuade man-cub Mowgli to leave the jungle and return to the 'Man Village'.
Rotherham Theatres Manager, mark Scott, said: "It's great to see film coming back to Rotherham.
"After the success of Film@theStudio, we thought we wouldn't be able to make it any better, but, by moving the whole thing to the Civic Theatre, we're bringing a whole new dimension to the experience, it'll be like the cinemas of old returning to the town.
"It offers a far more family-friendly and intimate atmosphere than in the multiplexes and the films we'll be showing can't been seen on any other big screen in the area.
"We've selected three fantastic film for the forthcoming season. Who doesn't love Jungle Book? And The Fantastic Mr. Fox is a sure-fire future classic. With 101 Dalmatians adding to the occasion, this is going to be a season to remember.
"As with before, there'll be free popcorn and, if they come to all three screenings and collect a stamp on each occasion, they'll be a congratulatory certificate!"
