Maltby Leisure Centre opens on February 1

Published Thursday 21st January 10

The new Maltby Leisure Centre will open its doors on Monday February 1.

The opening of the centre, which is the last of four new leisure centres to be built in Rotherham, completes a £35 million overhaul of leisure facilities in the borough.

The original opening date of the Leisure Centre had to be postponed by a few days after the recent snow caused the finishing touches to be delayed.

Alongside health and fitness features, the new Leisure Centre will connect to a service centre, which features a doctor's surgery, dental practice, pharmacy and council offices.

Its facilities include a 25m competition swimming pool with moveable floor, a diving pool, also with a moveable floor, a six court sports hall, a 50-station Kinetika gym, dance studio and coffee bar.

The leisure centre will provide an extensive range of activities from swimming courses to children's holiday clubs and gymnastics and trampolining lessons. It will also become the new home for Rotherham Metro Swimming Club and Maltby Diving Club.

Maltby Leisure Centre is one of four new facilities within the Borough which have been designed and built by DC Leisure.

The company will manage its operation together with its sister sites, Rotherham Leisure Complex, Aston-cum-Aughton Leisure Centre and Wath-upon-Dearne Leisure on behalf of the Council.
