Something for all at the Town Hall Open Day
Published Wednesday 19th October 11
Brides and their husbands-to-be will get the chance of a sneak preview of new wedding facilities at Rotherham's Town Hall as it opens its doors to the public later this month.
The Mayor of Rotherham, Councillor Shaun Wright, is hosting the Town Hall Open Day on Wednesday October 26 which will also include scheduled tours, children's activities and the chance to join the Mayor and Mayoress for morning coffee or afternoon tea.
As a special addition this year, people will have the first chance to see how the Town Hall's Garden Room will look for weddings as the building is now licensed for ceremonies to take place. The first ones are booked in for later this year.
The whole thing kicks off at 10am and runs until 4pm with scheduled tours taking place every hour on the hour.
Morning coffee with the Mayor and Mayoress of Rotherham, Councillor Shaun Wright and Mrs Lisa Wright, will be held in the Mayor's Parlour at 10am and there will be afternoon tea with the couple served at 3pm.
There will also be the chance to watch a DVD of the Mayoral inauguration ceremony in the main Council Chamber on the first floor.
For children on their half-term, entertainer Sparky Mark is hosting two sessions of fun activities at 10.30am and 2pm and there will be a competition for youngsters with a Halloween theme.
Councillor Wright said: "It's been a great year so far for us and we've been invited to so many great events that we're delighted to be able to return everyone's hospitality by inviting them to the Town Hall.
"There really will be something for everyone to enjoy and it's an added bonus that people who are looking for a location to host their weddings can now come along and have a look at what's on offer. It's an historic building for so many reasons and we hope that by hosting ceremonies we will add to that history and provide the perfect backdrop to people's special days."
