The first scheme in the Council’s £4million Towns and Villages Fund (TVF) programme has been completed. The works has linked two well-used green spaces; Greasbrough Park and Recreation Ground.
The first scheme in the Council’s £4million Towns and Villages Fund (TVF) programme has been completed.
The works in Greasbrough has linked two well-used green spaces; Green Flag Award winning Greasbrough Park and the nearby Recreation Ground through the creation of a new green corridor.
The project is part of a number of schemes being undertaken to restore pride in the borough’s towns and villages over the next two years as part of the TVF programme.
Following the work, Greasbrough Park and the Recreation Ground now benefit from a new green corridor, making it easier and safer for visitors to travel between both sites as well as making better use of a once underutilised space between the sites.
The new development named ‘Brimmagem Fold’, which is based on historic mapping, includes a new feature entrance with seating, widened footpaths to improve accessibility, tree planting and railings to deter vehicles from entering the green space.
Greasbrough ward councillors worked with local residents to draw up a wish list of sites they wanted to see developed with the green spaces topping the list of areas they wanted to see improved.
Deputy Leader and Member for Greasbrough Ward, Councillor Sarah Allen, said: “By engaging with the local community we’ve been able to use the Council's Towns and Villages funding on the facilities that really matter to local residents. The improvements make the spaces more welcoming and better accessibility make trips between the park and recreation ground safer and more pleasant for visitors".
Ward Councillor for Greasbrough Councillor Robert Elliott added: "I’m delighted the works have been completed, the team have done a fantastic job in turning around the project so quickly. The improvements really enhance these much-loved and well-used green spaces.”
In total, the Council is working towards implementing 23 separate schemes of a similar scale across the borough over the next two years.
The TVF money has been specifically earmarked for areas of the borough which are not being supported through national Government funding schemes, such as Levelling up and Towns Fund monies.
