Please help those in need this ChristmasPublished Wednesday, 21st October 2015
Rotherham Council is backing an appeal to help people in crisis this Christmas.
Rotherham’s Food for People in Crisis Partnership (FIC) Christmas Appeal 2015, was launched this week.
Local residents and organisations are being asked to help where they can by donating food and toiletry items at various public donation points throughout the borough or by making a monetary donation.
FIC consists of over 20 organisations in Rotherham that help people deal with emergency situations by providing them with food, whether it’s a parcel to take home or a cooked meal and they also provide other types of support.
Vanessa Bryan, Partnership Support Worker (FIC), Voluntary Action Rotherham said “This year FIC partners believe they will face increasing pressure as it is anticipated that more people and families will require support over Christmas.
"Increasingly, people surviving on low incomes/benefits are living on a financial knife-edge and for many families, Christmas Day will not be about feasting and presents, it will be a struggle to put food on the table and pay the bills.”
Jonathan Lang, Operations Manager at Shiloh and the FIC Chair said "Christmas is a time for presents, a time to show those you love that you care. By responding to this appeal, you will help people and families in need and you will help Food for People in Crisis partners support them this Christmas."
Public donation points for non-perishable in-date food and toiletry items include Council libraries and customer service centres, local fire stations, Voluntary Action Rotherham (VAR) offices and the Rotherham Advertiser's Wellgate office:
