Safety first for Flanderwell residentsPublished Thursday, 28th January 2016
Residents in Flanderwell were given advice and assistance to help keep themselves and their homes safe at an event this week.
Wentworth Valley Area Assembly organised the community safety event at the Mark Grove Neighbourhood Centre on Tuesday (26 January).
Residents were able to get information and advice from organisations including South Yorkshire Police, South Yorkshire Fire Service, South Yorkshire Police Road Safety, Victim Support, Lifewise, and Rotherham Council (energy efficiency and housing).
Free personal safety items including purse bells, personal safety alarms and lock packs were also given away to householders who came along.
“We were delighted that the event was so successful and well attended,” said Nicola Hacking, of Wentworth Valley Area Assembly.
“People who came along were given advice on personal safety and home security as well as how to keep warm during winter whilst keeping their bills down.”
Local Wickersley Ward Councillors Cllr Sue Ellis, Cllr Emma Hoddinott and Council Leader Cllr Chris Read were also on hand at the event so that local people could raise any concerns with them.
Cllr Ellis said: “We had a great turn-out and there was lots of interest from everyone who visited. I’m sure we’ll be organising something similar again soon.”
