Could You Play a Fairy with Attitude?

Peter Pan coming to the Civic Theatre this festive season

The magical world of Neverland is coming to Rotherham this festive season at Peter Pan is announced as the latest and greatest pantomime at the Civic Theatre.

Theatre staff are already hard at work turning the theatre into a place of magic, crocodiles and pirates and the call has gone out for one lucky Rotherham girl to become one of the stars of the show.

Spillers Pantomimes, who will be once again producing Rotherham's biggest show of the year, are asking for girls aged 7 - 11 to audition for Peter's magical best friend, Tinker Bell, the fairy with attitude.

Preliminary auditions are set to take place on Thursday August 23 at Rotherham Borough Council's Riverside House, Main Street. Auditionees are asked to arrive no later then 1.30pm to register, with auditions due to start at 2pm.

The lucky few who are chosen will then go on to final auditions with the producers in late September.

The girl who is eventually chosen will then be filmed so her image can be projected onto the Civic Theatre screen during the performances.

Rotherham Theatres Manager, Mark Scott, said: "One of the highlights of our pantomimes is seeing the joy and excitement on the young amateur performers faces as they take their first steps in showbiz.

"Everybody loves Tinker Bell, she's iconic thanks to the 1954 Disney film, so, whoever wins the role will have to have a big personality, be able to read a script well, but, we're not looking for lots of experience, we're looking for the right person to portray this fantastic fairy.

"Because we're filming Tinker Bell before the panto starts and projecting her onto the screen, the person won't need to come to any of the performances, but not having a fear of heights is essential as they will be required to fly in a harness as part of the role.

"With such classic lines, Tinker Bell is an interesting character to play, so this should be an amazing opportunity for someone with an engaging personality who feels they can portray her many faces."
