Could You be Tinker Bell?
Published Wednesday 8th August 12
Believing is just the beginning with Tinker Bell - and if you believe you could step into the mischievous fairy's shoes you are invited to take part in this month's Peter Pan auditions.
Tinker Bell is well known as the fairy with attitude who joins Peter Pan in his adventures on the island of Neverland.
Initially described by her creator J. M. Barrie as 'a common fairy', Tinker Bell's animated incarnation in the 1954 Disney film was a great hit and she has since become a symbol of 'the magic of Disney', being recognised as the unofficial mascot of The Walt Disney Company.
If you are interested in trying out for this exciting part you are invited to come along to auditions taking place on Thursday, 23 August, 2012.
Rotherham's auditions for the fairy role are part of the preparations for this year's pantomime Peter Pan which will run at Rotherham Civic Theatre from Wednesday, December 5, 2012, until Sunday, January 13, 2013.
Rotherham Theatre Manager Mark Scott said: "Though sometimes ill-tempered, spoiled, and very jealous and vindictive, getting the Lost Boys to shoot arrows at Wendy, for example, at other times Tinker Bell is helpful and kind to Peter.
"Tinker Bell has been known to deliver such memorable lines as, 'Every time someone says I do not believe in fairies, somewhere there's a fairy that falls down dead' and 'You know that place between sleep and awake, the place where you can still remember dreaming? That's where I'll always love you'.
"With such classic lines, Tinker Bell is an interesting character to play, so this should be an amazing opportunity for someone who feels they can portray her many faces."
Rather than be a live role, the character of Tinker Bell will not be in the pantomime in person but will be filmed beforehand and especially relayed with a state-of-the-art video projected as part of each show.
To audition, girls should be between 7 and 11 years old, with an engaging personality, and good at delivering lines. They should have no fear of heights as they will be required to fly in a harness as part of the role.
The auditions will take place on Thursday, 23 August, 2012 at Rotherham Borough Council's Riverside House, Main Street , Rotherham . This will be a preliminary audition and final auditions will be held in September. Auditionees are asked to arrive no later than 1.30pm to register, with auditions due to start at 2pm.
