Panto brings smiles to Rotherham Hospital
Published Wednesday 26th September 12
Rotherham’s panto for the 2012 festive season has launched in spectacular style, by bringing smiles to children in a local hospital.
Cast from the panto, which this year will transform the borough into Never Never Land for Peter Pan, visited Rotherham Hospital on Monday September 24 to spread cheer and to officially launch the Civic Theatre's festive spectacular.
Daniel Hope, who will be donning the green tights as Peter, and Rotherham favourite Dean Winters were joined by star of stage and screen Mario Vernazza, Vikki Sparkes and Hayley Murray to bring mirth and madness to Rotherham Hospital's Children's Ward during the visit.
Rotherham Theatre's manager, Mark Scott, said: "There's no better way to launch a panto than to bring joy and excitement to people, particularly to children who are having to spend some time in hospital.
"When it was suggested we launch Peter Pan at Rotherham Hospital we jumped at the chance. It was a fantastic experience for everyone, the staff and children loved it, as did the cast, who brought all the great atmosphere and laughs of the show to the ward.
"We've got an all-star cast for this year's show, Mario Vernazza, who is playing Captain Hook, is a veteran of such films as The Da Vinci Code and Nine and Dean Winters returns after becoming a fan-favourite last year during Jack and the Beanstalk to have the audience rolling in the aisles.
"Backing them up are the phenomenally talented Hayley Murray as Wendy, the ever enchanting Vikki Sparkes as Mrs. Darling / Tiger Lily and, of course, the star of the show, the energetic Daniel Hope as Peter.
"We're hoping for this to be our biggest panto ever. The last time we had Peter Pan here at the Civic Theatre over the festive period it was a smash hit, breaking box office records and bringing genuine magic to Rotherham."
Anjum Zaidi, Community Involvement Officer from Rotherham Hospital added: "It is wonderful for the children to be able to experience this. Some of them may be in hospital when Peter Pan is showing at the theatre and we didn't want them to miss out. It is nice of the cast to bring a bit of sparkle to poorly children at the hospital."
