A brand new Council Housing development at Barbers Avenue Rawmarsh was officially opened yesterday by the Mayor of Rotherham, Cllr Maggi Clark.

The £2.3 million Carr Mews development, on the site of the old Cricket club and snooker hall, includes 25 new affordable homes and comprises a mix of two and three bedroom bungalows and three bedroom houses. It also includes a custom designed property earmarked as the new home for a family with a disabled child.

Mayor of Rotherham, Cllr Maggi Clark said: "It is an honour to be opening this development named in memory of Councillor Jack Carr who I served on the Council with. It showcases a new way of working and will bring significant benefits to the wider area."

The partnership project between the Council and Reshape Housing, who won the contract to build the properties, is a welcome addition to the Council housing stock.

Cllr Emma Wallis, Cabinet Member for Housing said: "Providing quality and affordable homes that meet the needs of our residents is a priority. This development has great potential to support economic growth and enrich the community as well as the individual lives of our tenants who occupy these brand new properties."

Darren Goodwin, Director at Reshape Housing added: "We are delighted to be involved in this project which enhances the local area. The design approach takes into account the character of the existing surrounding properties whilst bringing a distinct addition to this particular area of Barbers Avenue."

This project has been successfully delivered to time and budget and properties have already being advertised to prospective council tenants. Anyone who is interested in finding out more about the properties should contact Key Choices.
