Fairtrade dinner
Published Tuesday 9th February 10
Rotherham reaffirms its Fairtrade status this month with a special event at Rotherham College of Arts and Technology.
Using Fairtrade and local produce as far as possible, catering and hospitality students will serve up an eight-course gourmet meal at the Wharncliffe Restaurant on Friday February 26.
"The event was a huge success last year," said Rotherham Borough Council Policy Officer, Kate Taylor, and a member of the Fairtrade steering group which is organising the event. "We raised money for charity through the raffle and the quiz and hope to do the same again this year. There is still the chance to buy tickets as we have a handful left."
Cabinet Member for Resources, Councillor Ken Wyatt, added: "Fairtrade makes a real difference to people's lives internationally by giving producers a fair deal for their products.
"Our dinner will be prepared and served by the students using both Fairtrade and Yorkshire ingredients so we are also helping businesses closer to home.
"As in previous years our good causes have an international and local theme; this year all proceeds will be shared between 'Coffee Kids' and Rotherham's 'Speak-up self Advocacy' Group."
Tickets, which are still available, are priced at £30. The tickets include an eight-course meal plus an extra special drink on arrival and table wine/soft drinks during the meal.
For further information and to purchase your tickets please contact Kate Taylor 01709 822789 or Christine Majer on 01709 822738.
