Nelson competition winner
Aston schoolgirl Flora Walker receives her prize from Heritage Services Learning Officer Lorna Pedley

Aston schoolgirl Flora Walker is the lucky winner of Clifton Park Museum’s “Nelson” colouring competition.

Flora, a pupil at Aston Fence School, submitted the winning design in the competition to design a special card, which will be printed and then go on sale in the museum shop.

Talented Flora was presented with her own pack of cards in the winning design, plus tickets for Yorkshire Wildlife Park to see the real lions!

Rotherham Council’s Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods and Cultural Services, Cllr Taiba Yasseen, said: “Congratulations to Flora, her lively and colourful design is a worthy winner of the competition – I look forward to seeing her cards on sale in the museum shop.”

The competition for local schoolchildren was organised to celebrate Nelson the Lion’s 70 years at Clifton Park Museum. The winning art work and other entries will be on display in Clifton Park Museum during half term.

Families are invited to join in the celebrations and view the competition entries at a Family Fun Day on Tuesday 31 May, where there will be crafts, activities and a safari trail.

The event costs £2.50 per child – drop in any time throughout the day, no booking required.
