Fostering and Football: Fostering Rotherham launches an exciting partnership with Rotherham United

Fostering and Football

Fostering Rotherham and Rotherham United have launched a new partnership, raising the profile of fostering in the borough.

Football is a sport that brings people together and it’s something the whole family can enjoy. Just like Football, fostering changes the lives of children and young people for the better.

Rotherham United will be promoting fostering opportunities across the season. There will be two dedicated Fostering Rotherham fixtures that will shine a spotlight on fostering to thousands of Football fans.

This exciting partnership will help to spread the message about fostering to a captive audience of Football fans.

The partnership was launched at Rotherham’s fostering conference, a bi-annual event hosted for foster carers. It was an opportunity to bring Rotherham’s fostering community together and to celebrate the contribution that foster carers make to the lives of so many children and young people.

Councillor Victoria Cusworth, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People at Rotherham Council, said:

I’m really pleased that we’re working with Rotherham United to promote fostering, raising awareness amongst supporters and residents across the borough.

“There is no typical Football fan or foster carer. We urgently need new foster carers from all walks of life. There are local children, right now, in need of a safe, stable and loving environment to call home. If you have the space in your home and the love in your heart, please get in touch with the Fostering Rotherham team.

“The partnership was launched at our fostering conference, where families from across the borough came together to celebrate fostering. It was our way of saying thank you to Rotherham’s fantastic foster carers for their dedication to children and young people.”

Jamie Noble, Head of Community at Rotherham United, said:

Rotherham United is thrilled to be promoting fostering in Rotherham. As a family-owned club, we know how important it is to provide young people with safe spaces and whilst the vast majority of young people live in loved and nurtured environments, sadly not every young person has that.

"Fostering is a great opportunity to help a young person get the best start in life and see the rewards of supporting some of our most vulnerable young people in the town.”

Lindsey Robinson and Jason Moxon have been fostering for 8 years. They transferred to Fostering Rotherham from an Independent Fostering Agency and said:

“We’ve looked after a range of children from 0 to 18. The advice I would give to people is to just do it. Don’t hold back, look into it, and foster. The support available has been amazing. The fostering conference has been a great way to meet other people and celebrate fostering.”
