Clifton Park needs your vote for the UK’s People’s Choice AwardsPublished Friday, 16th September 2016
Clifton Park was awarded a prestigious Green Flag for the fifth time in July and now you can vote for it as one of the best parks in the UK in the People’s Choice award.
Clifton Park qualifies for the People’s Choice nomination because it recently won a Green Flag award. It is among a record-breaking 1,686 parks and green spaces to receive a Green Flag Award.
A Green Flag flying overhead is a sign to the public that the park boasts the highest possible standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent facilities.
Clifton Park is a major attraction for Rotherham with many families travelling from across the borough and beyond, to enjoy its open green spaces, gardens, entertainment facilities and the Clifton Park Museum.
A lot of investment has gone into the park over the years, including £7.5m* in 2009 to bring the walled garden back into use and updating the paddling pool with an innovative splash park, one of the most modern and impressive in Britain. In addition, a play park was designed in consultation with young people with eight separate areas including a skate plaza, sand area, chill out area and an enchanted wood.
Clifton Park is hugely popular with people of all ages, with a wide variety of attractions including beautiful gardens, tennis courts, traditional amusement park, crazy golf and even a land train to take visitors to Clifton Park Museum and back.
Rotherham Council’s Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Working and Cultural Services, Cllr Taiba Yasseen, said it was recognition for the hard work of the team behind the scenes who maintain the beautiful Clifton Park and its excellent facilities.
“Clifton Park is the jewel in the crown of Rotherham’s urban parks and now it has a chance to be picked as one of the UK’s top ten favourite parks. Following the restoration of Clifton Park, many families have been attracted to the wonderful water splash park and play area.
“We hope this competition will be a real boost for the borough and we are pulling out all the stops to make sure local people know about Rotherham’s nomination.
“To have a chance of being crowned one of ten national winners, it needs your votes.”
Voting is open now and closes at noon on Friday 30 September. Follow the link below to vote.
