If you’re planning to show your appreciation to your mother on Mothering Sunday, Rotherham Council would like to remind you to ‘look before you book.’

If you are considering taking your mother out for Sunday lunch or treating her to afternoon tea, check out the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme website. This will tell you about the hygiene standards for example how clean and tidy their staff are also how well they maintain their premises.

The Food Hygiene Rating Scheme rates food businesses on their hygiene standards, based on inspections carried out by local authority food safety officers. Businesses are rated on a scale ranging from zero which means ‘urgent improvement necessary’ to a top rating of five which is ‘very good.’

So, whether you’re reserving a table in a cosy little café, dining out in a pub or restaurant or ordering a takeaway, make sure you choose one of the of 1643 businesses in Rotherham with a rating of three or above.

It’s really easy to check. Just go online to the Food Standard Agency’s website or if you’re out and about check for the green and black sticker, if you can’t see one just ask the business.
