You can now recycle your old bikes and small appliances!

People can now donate old bicycles or small domestic electrical appliances to be used again in a new scheme being offered by Rotherham Council.

Rather than throwing the items away, or recycling them, residents can now see their items re-used instead by taking them to their local recycling centre.

The Council's Cabinet Member for Waste, Roads and Community Safety, Cllr Emma Hoddinott, said: “We are pleased to offer Rotherham residents the opportunity to have their old items re-used if they bring them along to any of our Recycling Centres. Every bike or television re-used is one that is not going into our waste.”

The Council, along with its waste partners Barnsley MBC and Doncaster MBC, has introduced the scheme to re-use appliances and bicycles in partnership with FCC Environment, Advantage Waste Brokers and Refurnish, a Social Enterprise organisation which supports employment of people from disadvantaged backgrounds or who have special needs. Refurnish also provides staff with volunteering, training and work placement opportunities

Meanwhile, if you’re planning a trip to your local recycling centre, the good news is that the lighter nights mean longer opening hours from  the beginning of April - giving us all more time to recycle!

From Saturday April 1, the Council’s four Household Waste Recycling Centres at North Anston, Car Hill in Greasbrough, Lidget Lane in Bramley and Warren Vale in Rawmarsh will be open from 10.00 am - 6.30 pm.

Householders are asked to assist the recycling process by sorting out their waste before arriving at the centres. Separate containers are provided at each of the centres for many different types of waste and attendants are available to offer guidance to ensure waste goes into the appropriate containers for recycling.

Please remember:

• Magilla (North Anston) is closed every Tuesday
