A major consultation drive is being launched across the Sheffield City Region this week to ask all residents and businesses how the new powers the area will get under devolution should be used.

Public meetings are being held across the region – full details can be found on the Sheffield City Region devolution website. You can make your views known online, or on paper survey forms available at the public events.

The Sheffield City Region will get £1.3billion of extra funding over the next 30 years under the devolution deal, and powers will come to the region which are currently held in London. They include decision making on skills, transport and infrastructure, and creating jobs.

The region believes local leaders are better placed to make local decisions. As part of the deal, the region will have a directly-elected Mayor working closely with local authorities and business leaders.

Further details can be found on the Sheffield City Region devolution website, which has also been set up to give resident and businesses the chance to have their say.

Sir Steve Houghton, Chair of the Sheffield City Region Combined Authority, said: "I would urge everyone, every single resident and businessperson in the region, to have your say. This consultation is vitally important. For the first time ever we’ll be making our own decisions around investment in skills, transport and infrastructure. Don’t miss the boat!"
