Heroes assemble – join the Great British Spring Clean this March!

Published on Tuesday, 6th March 2018 in People and communities news

Litter picking heroes are being urged to help spruce up the borough in support of Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Spring Clean.

The Council’s Love Where You Live initiative has events taking place throughout March – and everyone is welcome to come along and lend a hand.

“Since the Love Where You Live campaign started we’ve been overwhelmed by the number of volunteers who have come forward to help make a difference in their local area – 86,356 bags of rubbish were collected last year.” said Cllr Emma Hoddinott, Rotherham Council’s Cabinet Member for Waste, Roads and Community Safety.

Swinton Ward Councillor, Ken Wyatt, added: “We hold regular litter picks – at least once a month -  and community skips here in Swinton. We’d welcome anyone who’d like to come along and join us.”

All though some events were postponed due to the recent wintery weather, litter picks are taking place right across the borough throughout March, from Kiveton to Swinton, Rotherham Town Centre to Ravenfield. To find an event near you, go to the Love Where You Live web pages.

The Council can support with litter picking equipment and removing any waste that is collected.

Love Where You Live is also keen to hear from volunteers to help report issues such as litter, fly tipping or street lights that are out of order in their local area. Find out more on the web pages.

The Great British Spring Clean aims to bring people across the country together to clear up litter that blights towns, villages, countryside and beaches.
