Working Together 2018

Department for Education (DfE) has published updated statutory guidance for England

The new guidance sets out what organisations and agencies who work with children must and should do to safeguard and promote the welfare of all children and young people under the age of 18 in England. It is a significant update to the previous version of the guidance published in 2015.

Background

The new 2018 guidance follows a government consultation, launched in October 2017, which set out the changes needed to support the new system of multi-agency safeguarding arrangements established by the Children and Social Work Act 2017.

Key changes

Key areas where the 2018 guidance differs from the 2015 guidance are:

  • assessing need and providing help
  • organisational responsibilities
  • multi-agency safeguarding arrangements
  • local and national child safeguarding practice reviews
  • child death reviews.
