On behalf of Rotherham Council, I wish to express my extreme sadness at the announcement of the death of His Royal Highness, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh. We join with the Royal Family and the nation in mourning his loss. - Cllr Jenny Andrews, Mayor of Rotherham

I would like to extend my sincere sympathy to Her Majesty The Queen, the Royal Family and the people of the United Kingdom on this very sad occasion. His Royal Highness Prince Philip’s life was lived in service and duty to the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth. - Rotherham Council Leader Cllr Chris Read

    I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

    Throughout the years he gave so much for this country and was the rock that supported our beloved Queen through so much. His sense of duty and loyalty was immense. He was an incredible public servant and patriot who will be missed, but never forgotten.

    My thoughts and prayers at this time are with his friends, family and of course, Her Majesty the Queen.

    We mark with great sadness the passing of His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh. The Duke served the nation with great distinction during the Second World War, and as the consort of Her Majesty the Queen.

    For many years, Prince Philip has had a special connection to South Yorkshire. He was an Honorary Member of the Company of Cutlers in Hallamshire.

    The Duke of Edinburgh was one of the greats. We all know he was a war hero, a great father and spoke his mind but there was so much more to the man.

    He was a man far ahead of his time. He started talking about wildlife conservation and the environment long before anyone else did. He understood nature and the ramifications of what we are doing to it.

    He understood people. His Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme has benefitted thousands of lives and his charity work was endless. His commitment to the crown, country and commonwealth has to be hugely respected. We’ve lost a man who’s lived through so many world changes and he and the Queen have been steadfast throughout all of it.

    Hats off to you Philip, what a remarkable life you led. One of the absolute greats and a marvellous credit to the United Kingdom.

What a true gentleman who was interested in what everyone had to say. He had a quick wit and incisive understanding of what was being presented.     As a young boy in school we sang God Save Queen every morning. We never got a TV until 1952 and where able to watch Princess Elizabeths Coronation. But was unable to see her marriage ceremony to Prince Philip. However we got to see Prince Philip many times. My Dad was born in County Kent and where always close to England in our hearts. My wife and I are deeply saddened by the Prince Philips loss, but have wonderful memories for the rest of our lives. God Bless Him and may he rest in peace. Ken and Violet
